Eight Weeks of Lessons

A comprehensive eight-week online course that will take you through the mixed media portrait process step-by-step, utilizing video lessons, pdf printouts, classroom lecture, and opportunities to upload your work for feedback from me and your fellow students. 

WE WILL COVER:

• How to choose a copyright free reference photo

• How to create a compelling composition

• How to create an encaustic effect ephemera collage base layer

• How to transfer your photo to the substrate with graphite transfer paper

• How to add shading and line quality with black pastel

• How to create an underpainting with vibrant color

• How to paint your own collage papers using the gel plate; one video per technique

• How to paint your own collage papers using ten techniques; one video per technique

• How to rip and glue and applying your collage paper in a painterly manner

• How to tear with and without white edges

• How to keep your pieces perfectly flat

• How to vary your paper brush marks in size and shape

• How to apply simple gold leaf as an accent to your composition

• How to incorporate Stabilo Woodies

• How to incorporate Posca Markers

• How to incorporate black pastel

This online workshop will publish one pre-recorded lesson per week, for eight weeks. You may view (and review) the lessons at your own pace and on your own  schedule, all the videos will be available to you for 12 months. I will be commenting on all uploaded samples of work as well as questions in the classroom throughout the duration of the course, January 16th - March 6th.

At the end of this eight week course, you will have the skills and confidence to create a mixed media fashion illustration–your very own Paper Portrait!
