What Exactly Am I Doing with ALL Those Gel Prints?

Turning loose, playful prints into painterly Paper Paintings

One of the questions I get asked most often in my studio—and in my workshops—is, What do you actually do with all those gel prints?” This week’s video is my way of finally answering that, with a real look inside my process.

Those colorful, sometimes chaotic sheets of printed paper aren’t just experiments or leftovers. They’re the raw material for my painterly, impressionistic collages—what I call Paper Paintings. In this week’s video, I share how I create an ephemera background, and collage on top of an under-painting that acts as my roadmap and guide.

What I love about this method is the balance between planning and play. The under-painting gives structure, but the gel prints add surprise—unexpected color shifts, texture, and movement that you simply can’t get with paint alone. Each layer responds to the one beneath it, slowly transforming loose pieces of paper into a cohesive, luminous artwork.

If you’ve ever wondered how collage can look painterly, or how abstract prints can become something representational and expressive, this week’s Tutorial Tidbit will give you a peek behind the curtain. It’s all about letting the prints do what they do best—while guiding them into something beautiful, one layer at a time.
