Crayons, Texture, and Color Experiments
Who Can Resist? Permission to Play.
This week in the studio, I set the plan aside and gave myself permission to play. I pulled out crayons, explored texture rubbings, and added a little resist—just experimenting and following curiosity, the way we did as kids.
In the video, I create two sheets of layered art paper: one in a warm color palette and one in a cool palette. I share how different color combinations affect contrast and mood, from bold and high-impact to soft and subtle.
This kind of playful experimentation is where learning and creative breakthroughs happen. If you love mixed media, collage, or simply exploring materials without pressure, this one’s for you. Watch to the end to see how the papers look once they’re dry—and maybe feel inspired to give yourself permission to play, too.
