DIY Texture Plates with Molding Paste: A New Way to Print on the Gel Plate
So. Much. FUN!
This week in the studio, I tried something new—and it turned out to be a game-changer for gel printing. I experimented with molding paste and stencils to create my own flexible texture plates. These homemade plates are easy to make, surprisingly sturdy, and add beautiful dimension to your prints.
Once the plates were dry, I used them on the gel plate to create intricate patterns and textures. But the real magic happens when you layer those prints over colorful roll-off sheets or backgrounds you’ve already created. By using translucent pigments, you can build up rich, multi-layered effects that are full of depth and visual interest.
The results? Prints that are perfect for collage, journaling, mixed media, or just as they are. If you're looking for a fresh way to play with your gel plate and add a new tool to your creative toolbox, this is a technique worth trying!
