Experimenting with Metal Leaf Flakes on the Gel Plate

Creating Unique Papers for Mixed Media Projects

This week, Barb and I set out to explore how metal leaf can add a rich, organic, and painterly quality to gel plate prints. Our goal was to create beautifully layered papers perfect for collage and mixed media projects.

We combined foam stamping with delicate metal leaf flakes, experimenting with different techniques to see what effects we could achieve. The process was full of surprises—some results were stunning, while others taught us valuable lessons about what to avoid.

In the video, we share our entire process, including tips on working with metal leaf and foam stamps, as well as the challenges we faced. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced mixed media artist, we hope this inspires you to try these techniques and create your own unique papers.
