Layering with Metal Leaf Flakes and Funky Florals
What’s Not to Love About All those Layers?
One of my favorite things about gel printing is that every layer contributes to the story of the final print. A simple background can become rich and complex with just a few thoughtful additions, and that's exactly what Barb from Joggles and I explored in this week's video.
Working from our remote Sacramento studio, we combined Mona Lisa Metal Leaf Flakes with my Funky Florals stencils to create layered gel prints filled with texture, pattern, and a touch of metallic sparkle. The beauty of this technique is that it looks intricate, but it's built one layer at a time.
As mixed-media artists, we're always looking for ways to create papers that have depth and visual interest. By incorporating metal leaf flakes into the printing process, we were able to add unexpected flashes of shimmer that peek through the floral imagery. The result is a collection of unique papers that are perfect for collage, art journaling, card making, scrapbooking, and other paper arts.
