Transparent Rice Paper vs Wet Strength Tissue

Both Papers Have Wonderful Transparent Properties

A few months ago, Barb and I discovered Usugami, a beautiful new 14 GSM rice paper that’s incredibly thin—almost like tissue—yet surprisingly strong. It holds up beautifully to stamping, gel printing, and collage, which immediately caught our attention.

This week, we’re taking a closer look by comparing Usugami with Wet Strength Tissue Paper, focusing on transparency, durability, and how each performs in real mixed-media applications. What we found is that both papers truly shine in different ways. Depending on how you like to work, one may suit your process better than the other.

If you’re curious about choosing the right paper for your projects, this side-by-side comparison video is a great place to start.
